What we know about Virginia drunk driving accidents
We know a lot about drunk driving, including the number of car accidents it causes each year. The Virginia Highway Safety Office recently released its report, “2010 Virginia Traffic Crash Facts,” that gave a scary picture of how alcohol-related crashes are affecting our state.
Here are some key facts of this report:
- Drunk driving accidents killed 274 people
- 5,578 people were hurt in alcohol-related accidents
- 23,479 drivers tested positive for a .08 BAC or higher
- 22 teens between ages 15 to 19 were killed in drunk driving accidents, another 543 were injured
- Among the drivers tested, the average BAC was .1425
- Over three-quarters of the drivers convicted of DUI were male
- 29,063 were convicted of DUI
