Virginia injury attorney Ben Glass has previously made his views known on the issue of "payee notification."
Payee notification would require an insurance company to mail notice of a settlement to the claimant at the same time that it mails the settlement check to the claimant's attorney.
This simple idea makes a lot of sense, in part, because it would prevent that tiny percentage of attorneys who steal money from getting away with their crimes and it would have absolutely no cost to attorneys. Steve Conrad was one and he's doing big time jail time now.
Instead, some "alternatives" to payee notification involve costs of either time or money to all attorneys.
Which makes more sense to you?
Here is Ben Glass's letter to the editor in Virginia Lawyers Weekly on the subject.
