Q: UNABLE TO GET AN "IME": The insurance company requiring an Independent Medical Examination (IME) and there are no doctors within a 75 mile radius that does that sort of testing. What should I do to appeal the matter?
A: Our experience is that if the insurance company wants an Independent Medical Examination for your long-term disability claim and there are no doctors within a 75 mile radius, they will find a doctor outside of a 75-mile radius and pay for your transportation. They should not deny your claim on the basis of a lack of an Independent Medical Examination if they are requesting an Independent Medical Examination and can do nothing to arrange it.
