Watch out for these tricks used by insurance companies after car accidents (Part 1 of 2).

Unfortunately, car accidents happen every day. With each wreck comes an insurance claim and dealing with the insurance company of another driver can be a real hassle. If you are a driver in the cities of Gainesville and Haymarket in Virginia, you need to be aware of these three tricks that insurance companies may use to game you out of your deserved settlement.

  1. Delaying your claim. Insurance companies understand that being in a car accident can take a dramatic toll on a person's life. Medical bills are bound to pile up, and doctors and hospitals are going to come calling for payment. In the mean time, you likely are not working if you've suffered a major injury and paying those bills becomes difficult, even impossible. The insurance company will use this knowledge to pressure you into a quick, cheap settlement so that you have cash right now.
  2. Asking for unnecessary information. The insurance company will continually ask for more information under the guise that they need it to "evaluate your claim." Lots of these information requests are just set up to delay any action on the claim and to allow the insurance company the ability to keep collecting interest on the money they aren't giving you.
  3. Arguing about medical treatment. Let's be perfectly clear about one thing: chances are that the insurance adjuster didn't go to medical school and has no background in medicine. However, that doesn't prevent them from trying to pressure you about your physical therapy and other medical treatments. They will say things like, "Our computers indicate that you should have already recovered from this type of injury." The fact is that different people have different recovery times and different treatment needs. They'll try to tell you that they think you have been "overtreated." If you are being honest with your doctor about your ailments, then don't worry about this pressuring from the adjuster.
